Understanding the PRHS Band Demerit System

8/9/2026 1:15 pm

The PRHS Marching Band Demerit System is designed to create a positive, respectful, and accountable band culture by clearly outlining expectations and providing consistent, fair consequences when expectations are not met. Just as importantly, it recognizes and celebrates students who go above and beyond. Students have opportunities to earn HEART Awards for consistently demonstrating our program's core values through being Helpful, Enthusiastic, Accountable, Respectful, and Teamwork & Timeliness.

As you review the handbook, one area deserves special attention: attendance and communication. The most significant demerits are tied to unexcused tardiness, absences, or failing to communicate with directors in advance. Marching band is a team activity, and every rehearsal is essential to preparing the full ensemble. When a student is absent or late without communication, it impacts everyone.

We encourage every family to read through the complete Demerit System together so everyone understands the expectations, consequences, and opportunities for recognition. By working together, we can create a culture where students are celebrated for doing the right thing, supported when they make mistakes, and committed to helping the entire band succeed.
